Our final sporting tournament of the year couldn’t have finished any better! The mixed year 5 & 6 netball team arrived at East Leake excited at the opportunity to represent school in competition. After an even 1-1 draw to start us off, the team proceeded to win the next 5 games. The more they played, the more they grew stronger. 5 wins and 1 draw, surely that was enough to top the leader board…?
Much to their excitement, the team we drew against first, also won their 4 other games too. A final 5 minute game to decide a champion. After an inspirational pre-match chat from Coach Tammy, the team went out ready to produce one more fantastic display. Half way through the game, William stepped up when it mattered most, goal!!! 1-0 to Willow Brook and the team gave it their all to hold onto the lead to make Willow Brook champions of the mixed netball tournament!
An amazing way to finish an amazing year of sport. Many thanks to Tammy for giving up her time to help with moments like this and to the parents for their support.
I will leave you with Tammy’s individual comments on the team today:
“Millie worked hard at C, bringing the ball down court and controlling the game. She was also chosen for the umpires award.”
“Ruari had his debut, taking after his mum and playing a beautiful game at WA, with some excellent defensive play and passes into the shooters. He was awarded the coaches’ player of the tournament.”
“Phoenix scored an important goal for us at GS and also was a strong WD picking up lots of interceptions.”
“Edi was very versatile, and played a strong game in at GD, picking up lots of loose balls through court. Shows great promise for next year!”
“Chris played all over the court, using his defensive skills to mark fiercely and shut down his players.”
“William played a super GS, working hard to get away from his defender and putting up lots of great shots. His improvement during the tournament was incredible!”
“Elliott relished the chance to play GA, also managing to intercept plenty of passes defensively. His shooting ensured we won our games, and he was a key player down the court.”
“Alwande was our rock in the defensive end, watching the ball carefully and picking up many interceptions and rebounds. She controlled the game from the back line and always with a smile!”
