Welcome back

Hello everyone! I trust that your holidays were enjoyable and filled with fun moments that the children will be keen to tell both myself and others about. I’m looking forward to hearing about them!

I have been incredibly fortunate over the holidays and managed to ‘escape’ twice! Once to Norfolk (with extended family) and once to France & Spain (just ‘The Litchfields’). Whilst travelling I was able to read lots of different books from my favourite ongoing Star Wars series to a slightly more educational ‘The shortest History of England’ which I picked up from the Stone Henge gift shop.

Of course, a summer holiday isn’t complete without a mulling over of how school will unfold over the following term. As such, Mr. Boyd and I have planned a cracking half term full of fun, intrigue and, of course, learning.

What are we learning?

Our first topic

As a whole school we’re starting off by looking at Roald Dahl. In year five, we’re specifically focusing upon a book called ‘The Witches’. It’s a wonderful story set (initially) in Norway where Dahl brings characters to life in his usual fantastic way.

Awesome Websites

Keen readers

Parents frequently ask me about recommendations for books. It can be challenging to find a good selection specifically aimed at year 5. Luckily, the Books Trust have a superb tool to help you out!

The tool allows you to select your age range, type of book then gives you your results.

Home Learning

Handed out Friday – Returned Friday

Reading

We will provide your child with books from school to read at home. Please try to read as frequently as possible and sign the relevant part of the reading diary – thank you in advance!

Homework Book

Each week your child will bring home their homework book along with some pieces of homework to complete. For example, each week spellings will be sent home along with a piece of Maths and English. The tasks will link to learning we have done in school that week (or have recently covered). Spellings will be tested on a Friday too.

Kind regards,

Mr. Litchfield & Mr. Boyd
