Welcome back

Hello everyone! I trust that your holidays were enjoyable and filled with fun moments that the children will be keen to tell both myself and others about. I’m looking forward to hearing about them!

I have been incredibly busy over the summer – as some of you may be aware, I moved house. I’ve been busy renovating it for (what feels like) endless weeks. Painting, wallpapering and more have been on my summer holiday agenda but, thankfully, much of the work has been done and normal life was able to resume for some fun filled weeks with my wife and children.

As some of the children may be aware, I’ve always enjoyed watching and playing football and I’ve always had a soft spot for Arsenal Football Club, apologies in advance. I also enjoy gardening in my spare time (there’s a lot to do at my new house). I love to tell jokes and funny stories about my life and the things that have happened to me – I can’t wait to share them with the children all as the year progresses!

What are we learning?

As a whole school we’re starting off by looking at Roald Dahl. In year five, we’re specifically focusing upon a book called ‘The Witches’. It’s a wonderful story set (initially) in Norway where Dahl brings characters to life in his usual fantastic way.

Awesome Websites

Keen readers

Parents frequently ask me about recommendations for books. It can be challenging to find a good selection specifically aimed at year 5. Luckily, the Books Trust have a superb tool to help you out!

The tool allows you to select your age range, type of book then gives you your results.

Home Learning

Handed out Friday – Returned Friday

Reading

We will provide your child with books from school to read at home. Please try to read as frequently as possible and sign the relevant part of the reading diary – thank you in advance!

Homework Book

Each week your child will bring home their homework book along with some pieces of homework to complete. For example, each week spellings will be sent home along with a piece of Maths and English. The tasks will link to learning we have done in school that week (or have recently covered). Spellings will be tested on a Friday too.

A catch up

If you do have any questions or concerns that I can help with, please catch me on the playground and I’ll do my best to answer them then and there.

Kind regards,

Mr. Litchfield
