We started our Geography topic work in Class 1 today with lots of different activities to do with maps. Our focus in year 1 is the geography of the UK, looking at the countries that make up the United Kingdom as well as the features that makes each country unique. Using the book “Martha Maps it Out” as our starting point for different maps, children had a go at sketching their journey to school, completing puzzles of the UK, exploring atlas’ and the globe to find where the UK is on different maps, sketching the UK (there were some impressive attempts!), plotting the weather forecast, matching flags to countries and identifying where each country is on a map of the UK. The children already had some impressive knowledge on this topic and were keen to share where relatives live in the UK!
