Before the Easter holidays year 5 and 6 exhausted themselves during their stay at Mount Cook Adventure Base! We were all certainly ready to catch up on some sleep over the holidays, here’s a brief update of what we got up to, along with a few pictures from our stay.
Over the three days we faced many new challenges. The high ropes course and crate stacking activity not only pushed us to new heights but also developed our ability to work in teams…as a couple of girls soon realised, the only way to the top was by helping one another! Along with the help of Mr Jones, one group managed to beat the camp record on the crate stacking challenge with Junior balancing on a total of 18 crates by the end of the afternoon! Our first evening was spent with a film night before settling into our more than comfortable dorms.
On day two after a big breakfast we walked to Black Rocks. There we took part in five activities across the day including: scrambling, climbing, abseiling, orienteering and weaseling. It’s safe to say we all returned a little weary after a full on day but it was brilliant to see so many children challenging themselves and trying new ventures. On our second evening we enjoyed a campfire back at base. The Crazy Moose song was a firm favourite from our campfire songs!
The other activities we took part in were facing the zip wire that required a leap off the roof of the centre, there were lots of nervous children during this activity, and a competitive game of archery tag. Overall we had a fantastic stay. The staff that attended the trip were super impressed with the children in their groups and we were praised by Mount Cook for having such polite and friendly children. As you’ll see from the photos there were lots of smiling faces…
