This afternoon, children in Class R and Class 1 have been learning all about the parts of a pirate ship. The children had some fantastic ideas and explanations about how a ship moves using its sails and why pirates chose to fly a Jolly Roger flag.

After learning all about pirate ships and a little bit about how they stay afloat, children were set the challenge of designing and making their own pirate ship to carry the most amount of treasure. The children were very excited about box modelling and using all sorts of different material before they discovered that there was a catch to the challenge. All they could use was 1 piece of tin foil! The children thought carefully about their designs before getting busy folding, scrunching and bending. Some children quickly realised that tin fold rips very easily!

Here are some photographs of us testing our creations.
