This week, Willow Brook is hard at work thinking about Black History Month. In our assembly this morning we read a great little book called Mixed by Arree Chung. It opened up all sorts of thinking and conversations… from Freya in Year 6 who saw that the message echoed the book – ‘Return to Jo’burg’ – which had taught her a lot about apartheid, to George, who talked about Marcus Rashford and his online campaign to make the world of football a place where every team is happily mixed.  Even our EYFS children understood that difference is a thing to be proud of and opens up so many possibilities.

We added RESPECT to our shed of words and Aretha Franklin made sure that it was a word we’d remember!

Have a listen to some Willow Brook children as they tell the story…
